EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Specific objectives of the training course on contemporary approaches to extension
A brainstorming session had been held with 7 farmers from Adana and two academics from soil sciences departments of Çukurova University and Harran University.
Specific outputs
The aim of the roundtable discussion was to identify barriers and opportunities/strengths related to enhanced uses of Soil Data and Information (SDI) for sustainable soil/water and agricultural management (SSWM) in the Seyhan River Basin region and similar regions in Türkiye. The farmer participants are involved in both farming and fertilizer and pesticide sales. One farmer participant is both a farmer and the owner of a soil analysis laboratory.
Course Implementation
The working table is based on two stages. The first stage was devoted to establishing the definition of the barrier types. The second phase was identifying the underlying reasons of these barriers. Two flipchart questionnaires were prepared by Dr. Quang Bao Le from ICARDA. Participants were told to write barriers and opportunities to the implementation of soil information systems on colored cards. Yellow cards were utilized for marking barriers, whereas green cards were employed to highlight opportunities. After defining the three primary barriers, participants were requested to explain the rationale namely 5Whys behind each identified barrier.
Course Structure
Held face to face in Adana, Türkiye, 23-24.
